This is the fourth annual running of the Western Massachusetts Junior Golf Classic. The idea for this tournament was brought to the attention of the McCormack Leaders Club by a group of four freshman students three years ago. After working almost year round they were able to host a successful event the last three years. Moving forward, we hope for more golfers, more sponsors, and an overall better experience for everyone involved. This year's tournament will be hosted on Friday April 22 and Saturday April 23. Friday's round will be held at the Crumpin Fox Golf Club and Saturday's round will be held at The Country Club of Greenfield. There will be three age divisions for the tournament. The first is the 12 and under division where golfers will play 9 holes each day and pay a reduced rate. The two older divisions will be 13-15 and 16-18, with all golfers playing 18 holes both days.
The Pioneer Valley Tip-Off, proudly presented by Dick's Sporting Goods, is a regional high school basketball showcase that takes place on the UMass campus in mid-December. Played at the historic Curry Hicks Cage -- the former home to UMass Basketball legends including Julius Irving, Lou Roe, and and coach John Calipari -- the event is slated for its 3rd annual showcase this December 13-14. Included in the year's field are several rivalries local to the Pioneer Valley, the 2-time Division 1 State Champs Putnam Beavers, and programs from Central Massachusetts such as St. Peter Marian and Fitchburg High School. The event is executed thanks to the hard work of motivated students in the Mark H. McCormack Department of Sport Management, the support of several local businesses, and the cooperation of dozens of school administrators.
