In addition to preparing all club members for the job market by providing them with invaluable experiential learning opportunities, The McCormack Student Leaders Club also places a great emphasis on giving back to the community. All members are strongly encouraged to engage in our community service opportunities.
Relay for Life
The 5 College Relay for Life is an overnight event taking place on the UMass campus whose goal is to celebrate, remember, and fightback against the disease of cancer. Students will create teams, take part in different ceremonies, and raise money for the American Cancer Society. It is a national event and is celebrated at many campuses and in many communities nationally and internationally. All of our club members are strongly encouraged to participate in the relay, or to at least donate to the cause.
Not Bread Alone Soup Kitchen
Multiple times per semester, the McCormack Student Leaders Club sends club members to the Not Bread Alone Soup Kitchen, located in downtown Amherst, to volunteer their time to help the homeless. We will often pair with other organizations as well, to make it an even more powerful experience for our club members.
Thanksgiving Can Drive
Every year we encourage our club members to bring as many cans of non-perishable foods as possible to our last general body meeting before Thanksgiving break. The club then matches the donations made by the general body members, and donates them to the local soup kitchen.
